Sport

The promotion of sport but especially the promotion of our native games hurling, camogie and football is crucial to the spirit of Scoil Mhuire and in recent years the school teams have enjoyed great success. In the last number years our teams have won ten county titles between hurling, football and camogie along with numerous other Western Titles. In June 2014 we were delighted to see our camogie team win the County Title for the second time in three years with a great win over Kill NS in Walsh Park. You can see some great action shots from the game here.

Following on from this success in the mini sevens the boys won the Western Schools final for the third year in a row and qualified for the County Final where they took on St.Pauls BNS, Waterford. Some early gaols in the final meant the boys went on to win comfortably to complete a County Double for the second year in a row having defeated Portlaw in the County Football final earlier in the year.

Also in 2014 both the boys hurling and football teams qualified for the Western Final but were unfortunately defeated by a strong Ballyduff NS side. To complete a great year on the GAA fields three of our pupils were honoured to be selected on the Primary Game Teams that represented Waterford at half time in the Munster Championship matches. Leanne Sheehan was picked on the Camogie team, Ciarán McCarthy on the hurling team and Dylan Power on the football team.
